PEGLEC

A combination of Polyethylene Glycol (PEG) with Electrolytes for Gastrointestinal lavage.

Composition:
Each Sachet of 137.15g contains

Polyethylene Glycol 118 g
Sodium Chloride 2.93 g
Potassium Chloride 1.484 g
Sodium Bicarbonate 3.37 g
Anhydrous Sodium Sulphate 11.36 g

Mode of action:
When sufficient volume of PEG is taken, it leads to an increase in volume in the colon. This distends the colon and there by stretch the receptors resulting in increased peristaltic movements. This products voluminous liquid stool.

The Sodium Chloride, Sodium Sulphate, Pottassium Chloride and Sodium Bicarbonate salts prevents both loss and net absorption of ions from the body.

Indication:
For bowel cleaning prior to colonscopy, certain X-ray examination and also in gut preparation prior to colorectal Surgery and Hysteretomy.

Dosage:
The recommended dosage is 1-2 litres of dissolved of Peglec. In case of colonscopic examination Peglec should be administered four hours before the colonscopy. Peglec administration can be started 3 hours or more after lunch in the previous day, before surgery.

Preparation and Administration Method:
One pack of Peglec must be dissolved in water completely to make 2 litres. Pour into a cup (approx. 200ml) the dissolved solution and administer 5 cups in 1 hour. It is necessary that the total time take for consuming 2 litres of Peglec solution should not exceed 2 hours.

The first bowel movement should occur approximately 1 hour after the start of Peglec administration. And then, as evacuation occurs several times, keep administering the remaining Peglec solution until rectal effluent is clear. Lavage is usually complete after the intake of 1½ litres.
